How to Get Started
I recommend reviewing the literature on OKRs. However, even reading the entire book I co-authored with Paul Niven will not be enough. There’s only one way to learn about OKRs, and that’s to do it!
Drafting and refining YOUR Objectives and Key Results is the best way to gain the skills required to define effective OKRs. All my clients find that taking time to define “deployment parameters” is time well spent. Deployment parameters answer the key questions you need to answer prior to launching OKRs.

- Levels: At what level will OKRs be set? Company, Team, Individual?

- Number: Will we require ONE OKR or allow for multiple OKRs?
- Types: Will we allow Milestone Key Results or must all be metrics?
- Visibility: How will we ensure OKRs are visible? Do we need posters?
- Tool: Where will we publish OKRs? Should we buy dedicated software?
- Timeframe: Set OKRs each Quarter or also define Annual?
- Dependencies: How to identify, jointly define x-functional OKRs?
- Performance Reviews: How do OKRs relate to performance reviews?
